Sitting this one out
So for the first time in a long time, I am sitting the "after-Christmas Target madness" out. I am not even stepping foot in there. I don't need anything, even if it's the deal of the century. My focus is decluttering my house over the next 4 months, so no Target clearance for me.

Note: Kroger's coupon policy
Today I got some information about Kroger's coupon policy. Their policy is to only double the first coupon on each item. Meaning, you buy 4 of the same item, they only double the first one. The others are face value. The computer will automatically double it and the cashier is to manually fix it. My store in Jasper, did this to me today. I have been shopping there weekly for three years and they have never enforced this policy. I didn't know it existed. So keep that in mind when you're shopping at Kroger.

Fundraiser for Mackenzie
Mackenzie is in chorus this year and they are raising money for trips and equipment. She is selling magazines, wrapping paper, gifts, you name it and it's probably on the website. There are three different tabs on the left side under "browse catalogs." There is a good magazine for my fellow couponers that I have been buying at Walmart called All For You. She's also selling cookie dough and I didn't see it on the site. Please don't feel obligated. I just wanted to put it out there in case you were interested in any of the stuff. The orders have to be placed by Nov 4th. Thanks

Good ECB deals (a good way to get started)
I usually have a $10/$50 so I don't usually break up the transactions. But if you want to get going with the ECB's and not be too much OOP(out of pocket,) the best way is to find something that will be free or a money maker after ECB's.
Right now you can get the AccuMeter (glucose meter) for 9.99 with 9.99 in ECB's.
Also buy 2 Cover Girl Wetslicks for 5.99, use your B1G1 free coupon, and use your $1 off, get two for 4.99 and then you will recieve 5.99 in ECB's.
So the best way to do this is to do the covergirl deal, them use your 5.99 in ECB's to buy the monitor.
So here it is...
2 wetslicks 11.98
-B1G1 free 5.99
-$1 mfg q
OOP 4.99 plus tax
Receive 5.99 in ECB's
Monitor-9.99
-5.99 in ECB's
OOP $4 plus tax

So you walk away with a monitor, 2 wetslicks, and 9.99 in ECB's, only having spent 8.99 plus tax.

Remember no coupons on holiday weekends
There usually aren't any. There's talk of a small insert, so just look before you buy a bunch of papers.
Now that you have your system...
Let's talk about what to do with it.
First you have to clip coupons. I go to the store every Sunday and buy two double AJC's. Which means I will get 4 sets of coupons. Now if you're family is smaller than mine, I would only get one. You can also print lots of coupons online. You will have to check with your stores to find out if they take internet coupons. It's important to find out the policy before you go in. Find out if they double or triple or take competitors and if so which ones. Some Publix stores will take Target q's (coupons) and some wont. Also, when you are at the store and you pass a blinkie machine or tear pad, grab some coupons and save them for later. Also check in the front of the stores. For instance Publix had a great little booklet for summer. I ended up getting shout for $.49 a bottle with those coupons. Grab as many as you think you will use and hold on to them until When I get home with the papers, I put on Army Wives on Sunday nights and start clipping. Now I have ZERO interest in trading coupons, so I don't clip what I wont use. I don't have time to do that. I will give a plug for my friend though. She taught me all of this and she has started a coupon clipping service, so if you don't need the whole paper, you would come out cheaper paying her to clip the ones you need.
Ok, so now you have your coupons and they are all in your binder. What to do? 1st, I would pick your battles ie. Stores. I don't have time to surf the web constantly for all the best deals. So I have picked three stores that I go to every week. They are CVS, Kroger, and Publix. So I sit down with the paper (or get the ad online at Hot Coupon World) and pair up the sales with the coupons. The best was to take advantage is to buy in bulk. Which is why I like to have 4 sets of coupons. So if something is on sale at Publix for B1G1 free, that means it's half price, plus my coupon, I will buy several. Usually however many coupons I have.
I started with couponmom, because she tells you not to clip them but to staple the books and put the date on them. Then she pairs up the sale with the date of the coupon. It's a good way for beginners. But it's very true that if you clipped the coupon, you will remember that you have it. And the important thing is to always have your coupons with you. When you see something on clearance, you can pull out your book and get it even cheaper. Yes, you will feel silly carrying this huge binder in to the store. But when you walk out having saved a ton of $$, you wont care anymore. :)
So, that's a lot of info, but don't be afraid. If I can do it, anyone with half a brain can. Because I definitely don't have even half of one these days. The goal I have set for myself is to always save more than I spend without buying things I don't need (unless it's free, then I will donate it.) It's totally doable and then some with a little planning.
Getting started with coupons
For those of you who aren't familiar with the couponing game or those of you who need a better system, this is for you. A step-by-step "How to get your binder started" lesson.
You will need:
***3 ring zippered binder (splurge on this. It's so worth it.)
***Avery photo pages for your binder
** Scissors
** Index cards (for labeling)
** 3 dividers
** Any coupons you already have
Here are some pictures of mine so that you can have a visual...

First page
Store section
Here's how I have it organized...
In the front pockets I have, receipts (keep them all for a while,) scissors, tear pads (more on those in a minute,) "other" coupons ie. out to eat, recreation, etc., calculator, pens
Here's a list of my sections and each tab in the section:
First page-
- This week (all the coupons I have pulled out to use this week)
- Refile (this is for when I am in the store and decide not to use a coupon)
- Checkout (when I physically pick the item up and cross it off my list, I move the coupon from "this week" to "checkout" to make the process easier. And because I am OCD about this. :)
1st divider:Store Section (for coupons that are specific to a store)
- page 1: Target, Kroger, Publix
- page 2: CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid
2nd divider: Grocery (you will want to change some categories to what you need but you'll at least get an idea)
- cheese/butter, yogurt/pudding, milk/eggs
- lunchmeat/packaged meat, refrigerated breads and desserts, frozen meals
- frozen fruit, Frozen pizza/appetizers/sides, ice cream/frozen desserts
- Frozen breakfast, Protein/Weight watchers products, Dips/salsa
- soup, bread, cereal
- canned veggies, canned fruit, bars/snacks
- boxed meals, rice/sides, pasta/sauce
- boxed desserts, crackers/chips, peanut butter/jelly/syrup
- salad dressings/marinades, condiments, baking/spices
- organic boxed, organic dairy/meat, organic frozen
- juice/drinks, candy/gum, produce
3rd divider: HBA (health and beauty aids)
- Diapers, Wipes, Baby wash/shampoo
- shampoo/body wash, razors/shaving cream, deodorant
- lotion/soap, facial cleansers/moisturizers, makeup
- toothbrushes, toothpaste/mouthwash, feminine products
- pain relievers, first aid, pain & itch cream/drops
- cough/cold/allergy, tummy stuff, vitamins
4th divider: Household
- paper goods, laundry, dishwashing
- cleaning, dusting, bathroom
- floors, sanitizers, bug stuff
- office/school supplies, batteries, storage
- rebates, several extra pages
All for you magazine at Walmart

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Twins and More
Chicken Soup for the Soul: Twins and More
Whether you are a twin, the parent of twins, related to twins, acquainted with twins or just simply fascinated with twins, you're sure to have an inspirational, humorous, or touching story about this relationship! We are looking for stories and poems that highlight the special bond that twins share, the joys and challenges of raising twins, the unique circumstances of their arrival, the "double trouble" that twins get into, the "multiple blessings" of being a twin or having them in the family, and much more! We'd love to hear about triplets, quads and more, too. As with all Chicken Soup for the Soul stories, they should be told in the first person, not be previously published, and not exceed 1,200 words. Topics may include but are not limited to:
. The journey through infertility, resulting in twin blessings
. The joys and challenges of pregnancy with multiples
. The perils of prematurity and life in the NICU
. Getting the good news and sharing it with others
. Sleepless nights and endless feedings
. The incidents that make twins "double trouble"
. The pranks and "switcheroos" pulled by identical twins
. Being a singleton in a home with multiples
. The chaos and silliness of everyday life with twins
. The special bond that twins share
. Adventures in double potty-training
. Getting out and about with twins, whether it's to the store or on vacation
. Grandparenting twins
. Twins who arrive under special circumstances, such as adoption or surrogacy
. Single parenting with multiples
. Raising twins in a gay household
. The loss of a twin sibling
. Tackling the teenage years as a twin
. Twin tales from preschool, elementary school, high school and adult life
. . . and more!
If your story is selected for publication, you will receive $200, ten free copies of the book (worth more than $100) and a 50-word bio in the book. We cannot use previously published stories, but you will retain the rights to sell your story after it is published by Chicken Soup.
Please submit your stories through the Chicken Soup web site at www.chickensoup.com (click on "Submit a Story").

My AWESOME CVS trip
Ok here's what I got last night...
palmolive

6 soyjoys
2 smart rinse mouthwash
2 CVS bandaids
1 huggies body wash
1 huggies body wash cloths
4 bottles of ALL small and mighty
10 bottles of Perrier
Before my card the total was $80+
After using my card my total was $62.92
Coupons in this order:
$4 off $20 that I got in my email yesterday.
10 $1 off on the Perrier (from Publix)
4 $1 off for the ALL (newspaper)
2 $1 off of the Huggies wash (newspaper)
4 $1.50 off of the colgate (3 from the internet, 1 from the paper)
2 buy 2 get one free for the Soyjoys (newspaper)
2 of the free smart rinse coupons (internet)
My total was $34.84 including tax
Then I got $29.96 in ECB
So I spent $4.88 after ECB's
You can do each deal seperately so that you are out of pocket less the first time, but I didn't want the girl to be irritated with me. I am not bold enough for that yet.
